  Elaine Meakin - design process

The Design Process consists of:

1. Consultation
Held at the client's home to discuss needs, ideas, and a budget. This may be followed by a quotation that included the price of the survey and the drawing up of a structural plan.

2. Structural Plan
A site analysis and survey are undertaken from which a scaled site plan is produced. This provides the basis for a structural plan which will show all aspects of the new layout and specify the materials to be used. Any revisions will be fully discussed before the final plan is drawn up.

3. Planting Plan
The cost of this detailed plan will be given once the structural plan is completed. This planting plan will include the botanical names of plants required, together with quantities. Soil type, aspect and atmosphere are all taken into consideration, together with any preferences the client may have. Year round interest, ease of maintenance and screening may also be important.

Additional Aspects of the Design Process:

Construction Supervision
Quotations from reliable contractors I have worked with in the past can be obtained, and site visits made to ensure the correct materials are being used and that the work is being carried out according to precise design requirements.

Planting
I will source quality plants, place them as specified on the plan, and can install them with the help of an asisstant.

Aftercare
Periodic follow-up visits can be made to assess the progress of the garden. Some rearrangement and fine tuning may be necessary, as the development of a garden is an organic process.
